30, April, 2020 - A Country Drive & Tasty Sammiches :)

Dear, Mom -

How are you today, Mom? I hope you are happy and well! I am feeling better today as far as my neck and back go. The weather was uplifting between lightly cloudy to full sun. I took my client Bob for a drive to get him out of the house for a bit. We ended up going to a part of Sauvie Island that I, in 30 years, had never gone to. It was along the Multnomah Channel on the most westerly part of the island. This island is slightly north and right across the river from where I live, so it is a relatively fast drive. We saw lots of osprey nests with and without ospreys in them. Ospreys are a kind of raptor, like an eagle or a hawk, that tend to live close to water. The have a sharp, curved beak for fishing. They have there nests on pylons in the river, or on top of telephone poles or anything high off the ground. A lot of people make nesting platforms for them all over their habitat here in Oregon. They are very vocal and beautiful birds. Like eagles, they like to glide on the layers of thermal air. We also saw a lot of red-wing blackbirds landing on cat
tails and marsh grass. The really cool bird we saw was a great egret. It was white as snow and at the edge of a cow pond out in a pasture off the road. They look a lot like a sand hill crane, but they are white and tend to be slighter small. It was too far away to get a picture unfortunately. Here are a couple that I took from the car.

We had a great drive and then returned to Bob's son's house for a lovely lunch from Paula's sandwich shop called "Chop". Paula is Birgit's daughter. Birgit is my neighbor, friend and client. Anyhoo, Philippe, Bob's son, likes to support Paula's sandwich shop on Thursdays, so we always have a sandwich. Paula makes a sandwich called The Clubby that has turkey, avocado, bacon, shredded lettuce, tomato, and cheese. It is my favorite and eat either that or a tuna sandwich. She puts capers in her tuna mixture and NO ONIONS! Finally, someone who doesn't ruin cold tuna with onions!
Bob and Philippe try and different sandwich each time. They have fun trying them out and comparing to the ones the've had before.

Afterwards, I went to the grocery store bundled up like a bandit. I was in and out as quick as quick can be. Then I pumped my own gas in Oregon for the first time since we use to fill up at Corwin's in down town Milton-Freewater. I guess I still know how to do it! Then I went to get Elsa some food and a stinky, smoked bone. She chewed on it all night and will start in on it again in the morning, I'm sure. Then I went through a long and involved sanitation ritual of all things brought in the house from the store. (This is very exciting, I know.) Elsa got a nice walk with Holly and I.

You can see Elsa and Holly here in our lovely Pier Park. It makes for a nice walk to go there from our house. Lovely, tall, old coniferous trees.

Then I went to take out the trash, recycling, and compost bins. Before I took the compost, I topped it off with a bunch of spent tulips, blue bells, and day lilies that were crowding out my snapdragons and verbena. Then I was stiff from all the weeding. I played my video game while eating last nights leftovers, watched a show on Netflix called "The Repairshop". I think you would like that show. It is in England, and people bring in heirlooms or precious belongings that have broke or are in some disrepair. They they repair it so the object is functional again. It's fun to see the transformations of some of the objects.

Now I am getting ready for bed by writing my letter to you. It is important to me not to miss a day. I promise I won't.

I love you very very much, Mom. Have a lovely day today and thank you for reading this😘.
I will talk to you soon!
Sal
