01 July, 2020 - So Tired & Garden Update
Dear, Mom -
Hello. I have been so stinkin' tired this week. I am going to schedule a virtual visit with my doctor to see if I need to get my thyroid checked again. I get just enough energy to work through my shift, but once my body knows that I am headed home, I completely lose all momentum. I haven't felt this tired in a long time. I figure it is best to ask my doctor rather than guess. After all, that's what they are there for. I mean, I took a 2 hour nap today. I never take naps. I always feel guilty for taking a nap because I think I am missing out on being productive somehow. When the napping starts, I know it is time to start taking things seriously. I'm sure I'm fine, I probably just need to get some annual blood work done to make sure my iron levels are high (I do have a history of anemia) and to make sure all the other "lady levels" look good.
I want to show you how much the garden has grown. I am really in to updating you on this because it really is my first small garden. As the year progresses and we get into fall, I am going to try and build it out more in the back yard to prepare for next years crops. Next year I will want a lot more variety. Radishes and celery for salads, along with the cakes and lettuce we are growing. Some peppers for homemade salsas, corn, onions, carrots. Many of things I bought seeds for, but just didn't get my containers until it was too late. At least I can say I got a good start.
Here are my tomatoes so far. These are supposed to fruit big, sandwich variety of tomatoes.
My cucumbers are still growing, albeit slowly. I just have to be patient. At some point I will train them to grow up the rack in the back via some vertical wire from the middle the planter.
You can see by the comparison of my hand, that our lettuce has grown really well. We had some tonight on our veggie burgers and I picked some extra and wrapped it in a moist paper towel for salads tomorrow.
The next picture is a bit hard to see, but there is a lovely cedar tree growing in the tin barrel. I cannot plant it until the fall, so I am nurturing it for now. Otherwise, I will plant it in the middle, close to the back fence, and let it mature there. In front of it will be my fire pit. I'm not worried about a fire with the tree there, as it will be a while before it gets tall enough for that to be a consideration. By then, I will have reconfigured the back yard anyway and the fire pit most likely will be somewhere else.
I also have a Bigleaf hydrangea in the back yard. It's so pretty, but I wish it was easier to see. I need to make it more of a focal point somehow. It is too big to transplant, so I will have to work it into my plans when it comes to rearranging the layout of the plants and paths.
I will leave you with some more color with this French rose. It is a shrub rose rather than a bush. Many blooms all bundles together. Lovely color of pink, don't you think?
I love you, Mom!!! Super, duper much. Like, too the moon and back...LOTS! A whole universe and then some. Stay well. I hope I will be able to talk to you again soon. All my love to you...kisses and hugs...silly jokes and cups of coffee over chocolate chip cookies or grasshopper pie! Mmmmmm.
