14 July, 2020 - Bastille Day & Broken Glasses
Dear, Mom -
Garden Roses in lovely warm hues

Happy Bastille Day. Not that we celebrate it here in the States. It is a French holiday. Since Philippe and Bob are French, it came up that this is the first Bastille Day that Philippe has not been in France to celebrate it in some time. He is usually back in France at this time to do summer teaching. His father, Bob, now lives with him so it isn’t something that he can do. Bastille Day is the day that the Bastille Prison was stormed and the start of the French Revolution in 1789. Here is a picture of France on any given day.
A picture of France that I took off of the cover of one of Philippe’s books about France.
In France, they would treat today as we would the Fourth of July. They have fireworks and a large military parade. Thankfully, Elsa the dog is not in France today since she is still recovering from the fireworks fiasco we had here two weekends ago. She still goes into the bathroom and stays there until the early morning because she is scared of the dark. She equates it with bad noises. So, tonight, again, she is sleeping in the bathroom between the bathtub and the toilet. Poor little girl.
I broke my glasses for the fourth(?) time today. I have to buy a new pair as soon as possible. I think the frames are getting to the point that they are so weak that they aren’t going to hold the glue anymore. There is a store on the computer that will send you 5 glasses frames for free for 5 days to see which ones you like. You get to pick the 5 from their website for them to send. They also have a way to use the camera on your phone or iPad and it will show you what you look like with the glasses you chooses on. New fangled technology, I tell ya. It’s pretty cool though. I think I will try that instead of having them send me some. It sounds easier.
I have to admit it is a bit hard for me to type with my older reading glasses on. I have a hard time seeing the screen as I type and it is a bit distracting. I think I will say good night and check in with you tomorrow via the video chat. I will, of course, leave you with a couple of fresh, flower pictures from today.

I love you, Mom. I will talk to you soon. I am VERY MUCH looking forward to it. I’ll tell you I love you and you can hear me say it! Hugs and Kisses —- Sally
