18 July, 2020 - Picking Up Cherries & The Anonymous Bird

Dear, Mom -

Good day, Sweet Mother! It’s Saturday and it was my day to take off of work. Work with clients, but I still worked at home. I did take a fair share off and had time to myself because I needed it, but after awhile, I knew I had things in the yard to do. Our giant cherry tree in the back yard is dropping so many cherries that I knew I needed to get them off the grass before it attracts critters. Not that it hasn’t already. They fall pounds at a time. I swept them up off the patio on Wednesday and by Thursday you’d have never known that I’d done a thing. We are almost to the end of the cherry season, so hopefully this will only go on for another week. It is definitely slowing down. It’s when the wind comes through that they fall with a fury. I had one drop square on my head today while I was dishing up a pile to put in the yard debris bin. Oh well, what can you do?

We live in an area that used to be so quiet. Now, there are car races every night. I know I’ve mentioned it before. It is a constant reminder because on hot nights, we have to close the windows because it is so loud. It also scares Elsa. I really wish the city would install cameras that ticket cars that race down the two roads they race down. It is so annoying...especially when it is hot and we want the nice, night breeze. It didn’t used to be like this, but then nothing is like it used to be. Ugh. I am hoping for a positive change SOON!

Here’s ole scruffy, dirty dog Elsa laying on her back because she is silly.
These are Birgit’s Lilies that droop when they open. She wanted me to take a picture to show you for tonight’s letter. I would have got closer, but Paula has a full garden and I didn’t dare step into her flower bed on the off chance that I might end up stepping on something! With that said, they are a peculiar lily.
I actually am not sure what this is. My plant identifier says Poppy, but it isn’t. It’s probably in the Speedwell family or the like. I’ll let you know after I take a different picture and reidentify it.
This is the lone Pacific Onion that is growing out front. It is so pretty to watch it go through the transformation as it blooms.
Huge White/Yellow Lily in Paula’s garden. They are taller than I am and have multiple blooms. Birgit just loves lilies. Tomorrow is her birthday!
An interesting Panicle Hydrangea. It all bloom at the same time.
Creeping Thistle. Mom, you know this one. We had lots in eastern Oregon.
This is on our front steps next to the ramp. It has gazanias that will bloom eventually, sedums, fuschia, and our large hydrangea. There are also some rocks in there.

I love you very much, Mom. I also miss you very much. I will write more tomorrow. Have a fantastic day today. I hope you get to enjoy the sunshine. XoxoX —- Your Daughter, Sal*
