25 July, 2020 - Bath Day for Dogs

Dear, Mom -

Hi, Sweet Mama! I suppose it is to be very hot today. The forecast is saying 100 degrees! This is summer, so I guess we should have expected it at some point. This means we’ll have the air conditioner on most likely all through the night. I don’t mind it because we can set it to a certain temperature, and, like central air, we can make sure it kicks off if it get’s below a certain temp. It also has a timer, so I could set it to run for 5 hours and then it turns itself off and we just have the cool morning air. Oh, yes. It’s all very exciting. Sometimes, I really would like to live in a house with the temperature that would stay the same all year round. Regardless, I am grateful for what we have as there are many people who don’t have the luxury of electricity to run a fan on a hot night, let alone a roof over their heads. This is what we call a “first world problem”.

The car racing is going on out on the industrial streets not far away. It is getting to the point that it makes me anxious. I’m going to have to start wearing ear plugs just to fall asleep. The cars are very loud. All they do out there is stunts, burn outs, and donuts for hours upon hours. It is exhausting to listen to when all you can hear are tires screeching and engines revving. The police are so preoccupied in other areas of the city that they can’t be bothered to come out here anymore to put a stop to it. The people racing know this, so it’s just open season for them to be tearing it up on the road, keeping people awake until 2 - 3 a.m. Argh. It’s maddening.

Today, after I cleaned Birgit’s house, I gave her little dog Stella a bath. Stella used to be a show dog, I believe. She was bred because her breed was sought after. She is a black, Swedish poodle. You can tell she  is not the brightest bulb in the pack, but she is a good and loving dog for Birgit. She is overly attentive, which can become annoying to Birgit, but it also means that she loves to be loved and will give it when you most need it. Anyway, I washed her, which was easy. I dried her off then trimmed the hair around her eyes. Birgit usually has her groomed at a pet store down the street. They are so backed up with appointments that Stella was starting to get a bit wooly and stinky. I said I would be happy to bathe her as I knew it would be very easy. Show dogs get used to things like that. After I bathed her, it was Elsa’s turn. She had become so grimy from rolling around at the park. She prefers a dusty, weed patch to a nice, clean green, grassy patch. It doesn’t take her long to get dirty...and then she makes herself itchy.
Here is the fluffy Elsa dog after her bath. She’s my little Phyllis Diller!

I have tomorrow off and hope I get to talk to you at some point. It may not be until later in the day, but it sure would be nice, if possible. If not, we will talk on Monday. Here is my second day lily that bloomed today.

Birgit’s Daisies. One of her favorite flowers.
Dark purple Sweet Peas.
Pinkish magenta Dahlias
Late afternoon garden shot. Paula has so much variety.

Good night and good day, Mom. I love you very much and miss you very much, too.
I will talk with you soon. Imagine me giving you a hug and a smooch.
I hope to do that in person very soon. XO —- Your Youngest, Sal*
