06 August, 2020 - Rain! & Birthdays

 Dear, Mom -

Hello, Sweet Mama! How are you today? It was a cooler day with some lovely rain! I think most of Portland rejoiced when the rain started falling. It was such a nice, cool feeling to go out and walk Elsa the dog in a mist this morning. It ended up turning into more than a mist, but it felt refreshing all the same. I think it actually washed some of the dust off of Elsa. I had to towel her off when I got home and I think it took some of the grime with it. Thank goodness. She is a dog who loves to roll in the dirt.

Sleepy Pup!
This coming weekend is Holly's birthday. There isn't much we can do. For example, I cannot take her out to a restaurant for a meal, or we aren't supposed to go to the beach. Most of the things we would probably do for her birthday are put on hold due to the stupid virus that is turning everyone's lives upside down. I will make her her Aunt Mary Kay's chocolate sheet cake from scratch. I usually make her a real southern pound cake, but this year she wants the chocolate cake (YES!). Outside of that, I really don't know what I can get for her or make for her. If you have an idea, let me know. I am definitely open to suggestions!!! I'd take her camping, but were not even supposed to do that...and she doesn't really like camping. I would love to buy her a bicycle, but we both need bicycles, so that might be a problem. She isn't easy to shop for, so I think the cake will be the best thing I can contribute. Her Mom bought her a new computer for her music, which is fantastic because it has really been stressing her out not to be able to write music lately.

My best friend Kim's 50th birthday is coming up in a month. I was supposed to have a spoon hand carved and wood burned for her by then. I've found that I need a vice grip in order to carve it adequately. Holding the spoon and carving out the concave of the spoon is more than I am able to do with my poor grip. I am anxious to do it. I started her miniature one months ago and I still have it, but the wood probably isn't green enough to carve easily now, so I may have to just start over with a new blank. I am going to make a valiant effort to do it because I know she will love it. Plus I want to wood burn a Celtic design into is. I love a wood burning tool!

Well, I am off to bed. I have to deliver some sandwiches out to Topaz Farm for Paula in the morning, but need to walk Elsa before that, so I best turn in. I love you oodles! I miss you, toodles. Hahahaha. Not a laughing matter, but funny...I will chat with you as soon as Joy has returned from her needed weekend. Please have a lovely Friday and Saturday. Big, BIG HUG and KISS, ---Your Gal, Sal*
