07 August, 2020 - That Darn Skunk & Paperwork

 Dear, Mom -

Hi there, Mom! What’s shakin’? Are you enjoying your day so far? I hope you’ve had a nice breakfast and lunch. I wish I could come have a meal with you. I promise that I will in the future when it becomes a possibility. I made steelhead fillets with some mashed potatoes. For some reason, all the potatoes did not cook at the same rate, so when I went to mash them, there were a couple that still needed cooking. I didn’t notice until we were eating them. That was a bit of a bummer, but it could be worse. We are always thankful that we have food to eat and a roof over our heads, so an undercooked potato should be the least of our worries.

Today, I had to run downtown to turn in paperwork to the County so I could renew my position as a Homecare worker. I will tell you what. Working in a government position can be pretty maddening. I can’t tell you how many times people with desk jobs have lost my voucher (like a time card). It has been misplaced, lost, and who knows what. One gal gave me the excuse once things get lost because “people are tired”. Oh, really? Try being a caregiver, sister! I don’t think your desk job, from my own observations, is quite as taxing as working with elderly people who are cognitively challenged or in immense pain. Argh. I digress. My ire got worked up today. I apologize. So, the long and the short is I got my renewal turned in and hopefully all will be well for another year working for the County and my neighbor Birgit.

Last night at 3 a.m., I woke up to something scratching and sniffing outside the window. Of course, it was that darn skunk looking for an easy meal in the neighbors chicken coup. I had made it harder for the skunk to get in to the yard (I thought) and equally as hard to get out. He kept going back and forth from our side gate to the back fence. When I got up this morning, he had totally rerouted his path and dug a new hole right beyond where I had stopped putting the 4” x 1” slats. I figured when I won putting the pieces of wood down that that would be a possibility, but had my doubts. The lesson here is never underestimate a skunk. If they want something on the other side of a fence, they will find a way to get to it.

Tomorrow, Holly and I will have errands to run. She needs to go donate her old computer to Free Geek, an organization here in town that repairs, rebuilds, and resells or donates computers. Right now, since kids are not going back to school, but trying to do home schooling instead, there is a need for low income kids to find ways to acquire computers. Holly is getting a new computer for her birthday, so she hopes they can fix her old one and donate it to a child in need for school work. It’s a beast of a computer, so if they can rebuild it for a child, it will be a work horse! After that, we need to drop by the grocery store so I can pick up a few ingredients for Holly’s birthday cake that I will make her tomorrow. Then I have to run out to Beaverton for about an hour and a half to check on my client Gale. Then I will have to come home and water the garden because I didn’t do it yesterday (it rained) nor today (to much stuff going on).

Some dummy is shooting off fireworks again in our neighborhood. It is really annoying and I feel for all the animals that don’t understand what is happening. I don’t understand how there are people out there that don’t know it affects people and animals adversely. At this point in life, I just don’t understand people most of the time. Meh. What can you do?

This is what Elsa looks like when she wakes up in the morning. Look at that hair!

I am very sorry I didn’t get pictures today. I only took the early morning one of old Phyllis Diller the dog with her crazy hair. I will try and find some interesting things to photograph tomorrow for you while I am out and about.

I love you bunches and miss you tons. Say hello to all your sweet friends for me. I’m sending you and big hug and kiss! Your Darling, Youngest Daughter —— Sally Ann
