14 August, 2020 - Heat is Coming & Waterlogging the Yard & Garden
Dear, Mom -
Hi, Mom! How are you doing today? Are you rested and feeling well? Have you enjoyed your chocolate chip cookies with milk or coffee? I was so happy to bake them for you and see you enjoying them. I wish that I was able to bring you to my house so that we could bake together. I’d love to try and make a nice, berry pie, but I would need your expertise on how to make a perfect crust. I know it takes a while to learn. I think Kim feels like she is still trying to perfect a pie crust, and she is a stellar baker like you! I was fairly happy with the cake I made for Holly’s birthday. I know exactly what I did wrong, so next time it should be pretty easy to make it ‘just right’. A Goldilocks Cake ๐.
A wee butterfly with beautiful eyelashes.
A juvenile Bumblebee enjoying my cucumber blooms. Pollinate away, friend!
Tonight Holly and I had breakfast dinner. I made a really nice egg scramble with cherry tomatoes and basil from out garden, topped with some fresh Parmesan cheese. We also has some strips of bacon. Elsa the dog was a big fan of the bacon. Elsa the dog is a big fan of food. Period. Haha. I figured if I was going to use the stove for anything, it might as well be tonight when there is a bit of a breeze and in the 70s, unlike tomorrow when it will hit 100 degrees.
This weekend will be very hot. It will be good for you to be inside with your friends, away from the heat. I will take Elsa the dog for a very early walk tomorrow morning, then I need to head to the mechanics to have them check my tire for a nail or screw to see if there is a puncture some where. I have a light come on that tells me when the tire pressure is low, unfortunately it doesn’t pinpoint which tire, so they have to look at each one. I do remember hearing something metallic sounding in the front, passenger side tire the other day. I can be hard to differentiate between a rock caught in the tread and a big nail. I dropped by the same mechanic yesterday because of the problem, and he told me all the tires were low due to the flux in the temperature outside. Since the same light came on today, I think I must have a slow leak from a puncture instead. It just seems to add up and make sense. So I will get that taken care of tomorrow.
My back is feeling better. I may have overdone it a bit when I got home from work. I was bending over a lot in the yard, picking out dandelions and other weeds while I moved the water around. I was trying to get a good soak in both the front and back yard before the heat. I will have to do it again tomorrow night, but this time refrain from the bending over.
I cannot wait for next year’s garden. I am already trying to plan it better. Not only vegetables, but trying some contained fruit (other than my blueberries) and a lot more vegetables that will start in the spring and go through the fall. It is really something to eat things that you have grown yourself. They just tend to taste better.
I will leave you with some pictures that I took while out with Bob today. He always asks about you and how you are doing. He really wishes he was able to come visit with you, so we will do that when it is allowed. He misses seeing you a lot. He thinks you are a special lady. As do I!❤️❤️❤️
Have a lovely day. Stay nice and cool. I will talk to you soon, and see you in person again mid-week. I think Nancy and Rob are thinking about coming to see you now that they can visit in person. That would be really nice for all of you. Big Hugs and Kisses. Lot of love from my heart to yours,
