08 September, 2020 - Kim Turns 50 Today & Saw You Today!

 Dear, Mom -

I loved talking to you today. You were reserved, but still silly. Just like me, except for the reserved part. Hahaha. It sounds like you had a very nice day sitting and talking to Gary, one of the other residents. I’m glad you have such nice friends. You have lots of great discussions and do art and projects together.

I worked with your old housemate Bob today. It was a strange day. The wind last night was very strong and made a lot of people’s power go out. It also toppled lots of trees and plants, etc. I saved my 10 ft sunflower from toppling over and dying since I was able to get on top of it before the wind really picked up. Actually, there were two sunflowers and they both ended up making it through the storm just fine. Paula next door lost one of her flowering trees. She wasn’t very happy about it, but it just gives her an excuse to buy something new and fun to plant in the downed tree’s place.

Right now as I am typing, the wind is still blowing the chimes out on the porch. I will definitely have a lot of clean up work this weekend in the yard. There are so many leaves from the cherry tree, and the remainder of the cherries it needed to drop, all over the yard. I will just add it to my tree pruning agenda. My red maple needs a pruning since I let it sit without one last year. It has too many crisscrossing branches now and the canopy doesn’t breath as well as it should. So, the long and the short of it is I will have some extended yard clean up thanks to the horrible wind blowing through.

I took some pictures of flowers and plants when Kim and I were at the Nehalem River yesterday. This letter is a bit of a continuation from last nights. I even came across some Himalayan Blackberries.

I only ate a little bit of one to taste the berry being I wasn’t quite sure what it was. Himalayan BlackBerry.
True Forget-Me-Not. So petite and pretty.
Lady’s Thumb or Knotweed
Stinking Chamomile
Western Pearly Everlasting
This turtle was sitting among the rocks. Kim thought it was real and told me to watch my step. We were surprised to find someone had left this little, plastic guy there. He now rides in Kim’s car seeing the world!
This is the setting sun obscured by clouds of smoke. Pretty, but eerie.
Nehalem River. We sat and had lunch here. If we had brought our swimming suits, it would have been the perfect place to swim. There were swimming holes one after the other and quite isolated.
Apparently with bears🤣🐻

I hope you were able to get ahold of Nancy and have a chat. I know she had to go pick up some of the kids  from the airport. Doesn’t seem like a very good idea to be flying right now, but I guess some people don’t want to put their lives on hold due to the virus. That’s fine. I hope everyone is happy, healthy, and safe.

I love you, Mom. It was absolutely lovely to talk with you today. We will talk again very soon. I will try to come out and drop off your new slippers as soon as I can. I know you will like them a lot.
✨❤️Take care. Big hugs and kisses. Your Daughter, Sally Ann❤️✨
“Bear? What bear?”...
