Dear, Mom -
Another day of not-so-much excitement. Because we have been locked down due to the smoke, we cannot get out for any amount of time unless we are in the car. Even then, it is better to stay inside. The good news is that we are hopefully going to be getting rain in the next couple of days. That will help push the smoke out of the valley and hopefully out to see where it will dissipate never to be seen again. Every one I know is over having the clouds. Specifically, the clouds of smoke. What we wouldn’t give for some bonafide rain clouds right now. Really, I would love a nice sunshiny day with a temperature in the mid-70s, so that Elsa the dog can run run run her little heart out and be exhausted with joy! I know she wants to run more than most things, but we will wait a few more days for the smoke and the AQI score to go down.
I was able to get you some pictures today. I thought you might like these that I took out at Sauvie Island. It reminds me of something you would have painted in the past:
If only I could Photoshop in a nice blue sky with a wisp of clouds. Oh, well. This is our reality right now. It is getting on to fall and harvest time. I guess the grey in the sky isn’t so unfamiliar for this time of year. You used to paint old barns and the implements left around to rust. The flowers in the bed of the truck takes me back to your Thursday painting class. You often would paint something like the above pictures. You are such an amazing painter, Mom. I am so proud of all the beautiful pictures you have painted over your lifetime. I love having them in the house so I can be reminded of you all the time.

The flowers in the neighborhood are becoming less and less. It used to be there was an endless supply, whereas now I need to pick between something I may have taken a picture of before, something that is getting wilted, or a random picture that isn’t centered around flowers. I’ll always try to make it interesting whatever it turns out to be.
We have the nicest mail carrier named Julie Anne. Unfortunately, with great sadness, she has to go to another route elsewhere in the city. It makes me really sad because Elsa the dog LOVES her and so does the neighbor dog Rusty. We are going to give her a gift certificate for coffee somewhere. I think Rusty’s humans are going to do something for her, too. She was so sweet. She gave Holly and I two, really nice N95 masks with respirators. The one I had, I used for months and it got pretty scraggly. Those masks are hard to find and also aren’t cheap. It is ironic because I just ordered a 5 pack of a similar mask. Oh, well. What are ya going to do? She’s such a sweet girl, that Julie Anne. I sure hope she comes back to visit the dogs. Elsa is going to be very sad at her not being on the route anymore. It is rare to find a mail carrier that the dogs don’t bark out, but openly give love and tail shakes to! Sigh.
I’m going to get to bed, Mom. My eyes are slowly lowering to the shut position. In other words, I’m going to have to flip the ‘Open’ sign to ‘Closed’. Ha!
I love you very much. I will see you as soon as I am allowed to come out for a visit. If it isn’t soon enough, I will come by anyway and bring you cookies and your new pair of slippers. Keep me in your thoughts and I will of course think of you. You’re my Mom and I love you!
