09 October, 2020 - Here Comes the Rain & Ready for the Weekend
Dear, Mom -
It was a surprisingly nice day today. Yesterday when I looked at the weather for today, it just implied rain and only rain. I am very happy that today was actually quite sunny with a hint of breeze. It hasn’t been until this evening that a few drops have fallen and the wind has picked up a bit. I don’t have anything exciting planned for tomorrow. I was going to start digging a trench to lay some wire in that will be attached to the house around the open porch. I’m pretty sure it is where the bigger critters get in to the house via the dirt foundation, so I need to get it sealed up before it gets cold and they seek refuge. A long time ago, we were told that there is a good sized opening right underneath our front door which would be under the deck. One pest control guy attempted to fix it once, but I believe the animals just dug around it in the dirt and made their way back under the house. I know for sure they are under there, I’m just not sure if that is the only place they are coming in. I have been on the roof and made a barrier to one possible spot they are climbing in, put two boards over two other ways via behind the gutters, and have built by hand a Cobb wall with my pal Elden to block off a way they might have been coming in. It is a never ending battle. My point, going back to the beginning of this rant, is no matter the weather I better get outside and block off the places animals might be able to crawl under the deck. Phew.
The rain seems to be coming now. I took Elsa the dog out for her nightly potty break and it was spitting drops and seems as though it will keep building. I am fine with that. My garden is done, but I wouldn’t mind a bit of a storm to start off the Halloween season with. We’ve lost most the flowers and now the leaves are turning lovely shades of red, orange, yellow, and greens.
Outside of being with Birgit most of the day, not much of anything happened. Birgit and I had to run out to Costco today and there were so many dag gum people there we were in and out as quick as quick can be. Paula had asked if we could pick her up a new food processor for the sandwich shop. She doesn’t really have the time to run errands, so Birgit and I did it for her. She was very pleased.
I’m sorry that tonight’s letter is short, but I’m starting to get very sleepy and I still have a few flowers to post for you. I love you very much and miss you just as much. I think about you all the time and hope you do the same. I hope the rain isn’t pouring on Sunday because I will try to come see you!
