26 July, 2020 - It Is Hot Today & The Last Lilies
Dear, Mom -
How is your day so far? I hope we get to talk today! I’d like to know what you all are doing in the heat? Have you had any fun activities lately? Have you worked on the dog you were coloring lately? I will be very excited to frame that and hang it up when you are done!
Today, I got up pretty early so I could take the dog to the big tree park so she could run around and have a nice time while it was still cool out. I was surprised how many people were out at 8:30 am. I guess most people were thinking the same thing. There was a baseball game even being played. I didn’t know that people were actually playing sports right now, but I guess they can manage to stay far away from each other. I let her run off leash for a bit, chase some squirrels here and there, then put her back on and walked her around the neighborhood a bit. She loves a ride in the car so she is happy to go most anywhere, especially if it means she gets to get out and run around some where interesting...with squirrels!
I watered the garden and plants then mowed the lawn before noon. Then I spend most of the day inside taking it easy. I wish I would have baked something, but using the oven on a one hundred degree day isn’t what you really want to do. Holly and I started watching the old BBC “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” last night. It is from 1981, so it’s pretty old. It makes me think of Dad. He used to love listening to the story on his audio cassette tapes when he would drive. He wore those tapes out because he listened to them so much. I think he was just a big Douglas Adams fan really. He had most of the stories on tape. They are so silly and Dad was so stoic most of the time that I love the fact that he loved Douglas Adams.
Dad listened to most all of these while he drove.
The robot in the story reminds me of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. He is always sad and nothing ever seems to cheer him up. It is written so that something so sad has humor to it. I like that. A juxtaposition, I suppose. The whole thing is absurd and funny and very British, and I think that is what makes it so funny.
Oh, my goodness. Some dummy just let off a huge firework very close to our house. There is just no getting away from it. Poor Elsa. She was almost back to trusting to sleep in the bedroom and hang out with us in the living room. She was still in the bathroom tonight, but this will just set her back another week at least. I can’t believe how selfish people are. They have no consideration for animals at all. I’m sorry. It just makes my blood boil!l
I think today may have been the last of my day lilies. They only bloom for one day then they are done until next year. Hear is what the last two looked like at the end of the day.
The wilt from the outer most petals inward. They are totally worth the wait.
It is still warm in the house and Elsa the dog is between the toilet and bathtub. It’s the only place she feels safe when there are fireworks. I am going to comfort her for a bit then go to bed. I will leave you with some more flower pictures (like every night) and hope to talk with you tomorrow. I love you with all my heart and miss you with all my heart, too. We will talk very soon.
