05 August, 2020 - Flower Edition Part II & Just Bored Really

Dear, Mom -

It was a pleasure to talk to you today. It was the highlight of my day, really. I have to admins I am going a bit stir crazy. I need some where to go and something creative to do. The problem is that that required me to interact with other people, or go where other people might be. With the virus and my work, I can’t really afford to do that. The only thing I can think to do is to take Elsa the dog and go camping by ourselves for the weekend. My biggest problem with that is that I don’t like to go camping by myself and I don’t know how Elsa will do in a tent. She already is skittish in her own neighborhood at night, I don’t know if she will be able to sleep in a tent with interesting noises going on around her (basically forest critters) or if she will end up keeping me up all night, too. Therefore, I have to put camping on the back burner. Kim said we could do a day trip somewhere. Since I rarely see her, that would mean that wherever we choose to drive to, we both would have to wear masks while in the car together (not that big of a deal). I haven’t had a vacation in a year (and the last one was four days) and I am getting close to burn out. I will have to think harder about something to do. Maybe there is a little cabin I could rent for a night on a campground. That would be easier for Elsa to adjust to if she is inside an actual, solid structure. Sigh.

Well, I did take a load of flower pictures yesterday and a few today. I don’t know why I forgot to post them yesterday. My mind is just a bit off right now. So, with that said, I will post some of the highlights of the pictures I took.
Paula’s Huge Pink Dahlia

Globe Candytuft

Garden Verbena
Shasta Daisy
Red Nasturtium
Lilac Rose
Wild Foxglove

Gladioli

When I look at that picture of the Shasta Daisy, I just see cake frosting. Lots and lots of shavings of white, cake frosting and it makes me hungry every time. It is really cool looking for a daisy. I’m not thrilled by daisies. I don’t find them exciting to look at nor do they smell good. The light purple, or lilac, rose is very pretty and it smelled wonderful! The candytuft had just come up in my front flowerbed. I hadn’t even noticed it had bloomed until I was watering it today. Ha. Things tend to happen overnight.

I guess the one thing I did tonight was I tried to re-skunk proof the yard. I dug along the back fence where that dang skunk dug a big whole to get under the fence and into the chicken coup last night. It may be under my shed currently. I dug a gutter along the bottom of the fence and put 4” x 1” boards there and packed them in. I also cut off some of the overgrowth of the barberry that has VERY sharp thorns and put that down along the fence line, too, to discourage digging. Basically, I dug a lot of gutters and put a lot of boards where this skunk likes to dig. I am hoping it deters it from coming into the yard. Now, if it has spend the day sleeping under the shed, I suppose it will wake me up trying to get out at some point in the night. The shed is only about 8 feet away from where my head is on my pillow next to the screen of the window. If I hear it trying to dig out, tomorrow I will cautiously slide the 4” x 1” out just enough where the skunk can get out and go somewhere else. Fingers crossed that it isn’t under the shed!🀞🏽

We will talk again soon, Mom. I hope you have a lovely day today. You’re the best Mom ever and I mean that! I will keep telling you every so often. I love you and miss you. Hugs and Kisses, —- Sally Ann😘
