16 August, 2020 - Elsa Gets a Bath & I Get Things Done Early

 Dear, Mom -

Sweet Mama, how are you?! It really wasn’t as hot today as predicted. I believe it has something to do with the thick overcast of clouds. Perhaps that was a redundant sentence, but it doesn’t matter. I’m crazy in the head because I need a vacation, or some kind of weekend getaway in the woods or by the water somewhere. I know I am not the only person needing a reprieve since many people have been in lock down situations far more stringent than my own. Yet I am a person that really needs a twice yearly reset in nature so that stress doesn’t overwhelm me. I may have to do it soon and just take Elsa. I’ve mentioned doing that before, but something always comes up...and I don’t like doing things on my own. Holly isn’t into camping, so it makes it hard when the person you share your life with doesn’t have the same idea for a vacation. Regardless, at some point I will just go somewhere. It’s not like I can go far. I don’t have the kind of car that I can take off-road or the size of car for being able to sleep in comfortably.

Not my picture, but my idea of a fantastic camp site!
Elsa, ever so reluctantly, had an outdoor shower today. The weather was just right for being able to bathe her with the hose. The worst part is that it is very hard to get her face. If she wasn’t a bearded dog, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but her beard gets pretty nasty after rolling around in dirt and chewing on bones (as dogs do). She is very soft and shiny now. I’m sure she must feel lots better. I wish she would stay clean longer, but she is pretty sure she is supposed to be really dirty to be accepted in this family. What I would give to live next to a small river or lake where she would want to be getting wet all the time. It doesn’t matter, she is a good girl and I love her dirty or clean.
This is Elsa after her bath. She always looks fuzzy, clean or dirty. She just shines more when she’s clean :)

Even though it was a Sunday morning, I knew I needed to get up and get things done before the heat hit. I got up at 7 am and fed Elsa the dog. I made some coffee, Elsa led me to the car, and we went to 2 parks so she could run around before it was too hot. When we got home, I helped Birgit take in her laundry off the line and a couple other chores then went home. Holly and I washed Elsa and then I put the sprinkler on the garden while I vacuumed out the car (it really needed it). That all took til about noon and it started getting warm. I came inside and make some breakfast for lunch and thus my day of laziness started. I played my video game for part of the afternoon while Holly watched tutorials for her music software. That’s my day. I guess when it gets pretty warm, I’m just not out taking pictures like usual. I did find a little friend outside while I was eating lunch:
Grasshopper!
It is funny because unlike back in eastern Oregon, I just don’t see many grasshoppers in the urban setting that is my house and yard. It was neat seeing this guy come around for a visit today. I noticed when I got up close to him/her that it only had one antennae. Poor, little dude. I hope that doesn’t affect it’s ability to function and live. It looked like it was doing just fine.

Well, this all I have for my uneventful day. I hope you enjoyed my letter. I’m thinking about you today and I look forward to talking to you tomorrow. Have a great day and know that I LOVE YOU!!!
