10 September, 2020 - Smokey Day & Masks All Day Long

 Dear, Mom -

I bet you all have noticed the weird sky and the smell of smoke in the air? There are a lot of fires burning in the wilds of The Northwest right now. It makes the sky pinkish/orangish. The wind has been irregular and blowing it into town. It just has not been pleasant and it may take a bit for it to clear out completely. Well just hope for the best that it dissipates faster than they estimate it to. And bring LOTS of rain to put out the fires. The sun was so much obscured by the clouds of smoke today that you could look right at it for as long as you wanted. It just looked like a strange light in the sky, like a new planet we just discovered. The one picture I told didn’t turn out very good, so I guess just imagine a pale grey orange sky with a perfectly round purpley red circle in it. There ya go.

I enhanced the balance of light in the picture a bit so you could see the orb? Can you see it?

I had a pretty normal day outside of the weird weather. I got up and walked Elsa. We didn’t go very far due to the air quality. I can wear a mask, but Elsa can’t, so I don’t want her to have to breathe in any more smoke and ash than is necessary. After her walk, I had to make some phone calls and do some paperwork for the appointment I had to take Birgit to later in the afternoon. After that, I went over to see how Birgit was. She had had a nasty fall the night before. She banged up her eyebrow and shoulder. She was well enough that I could still take her to her doctor’s appointment, which was good. She needed to have the doctor look at one of her hands that she is getting double trigger finger on. Today, she got two steroid shots to help with the pain and we will go early next week for X-rays of her hands. She may end up getting surgery on her hand to help with the trigger fingers. We’ll see. Time always tells.

When we got home, I had some more paperwork and scheduling to work on. I took out the recycling, made myself some dinner, watched a show with Holly, and came in here to write your letter tonight. I don’t have much to report that is new, so I will leave you with a few pictures and descriptions and lots and lots of LOVE!
Birgit’s dog, Stella. She is a Swedish Poodle.
Sulfur Cosmos. I guess it maybe doesn’t smell so good...
Rugosa Rose
Japanese Cornel berries.

I learned today that if you gather the above berries off of the Japanese Cornel Dogwood, you can make a side dish very close to cranberry sauce with them. My neighbors have a whole tree full, so I think I will ask them is they don’t mind if I pick a couple cups worth. I love cranberries, so this may be a bit of a strange, yet yummy, delicacy.

I’m off to bed. My eyes are itchy from the smoke and I keep rubbing them. I think it will be best just to shut them and go to bed.

🌹🌷I WILL TALK TO YOU SOON🌷🌹
✨🌞I LOVE AND MISS YOU🌞✨
