19 October, 2020 - Errands & Cooking

Dear, Mom -

Oh, my. I was half way through your letter when I realized that I couldn’t include pictures for some reason. I had spend the last 45 minutes typing then the whole, darn letter disappeared. I gotta tell ya. There is just something about this year that makes you shrug your shoulders and say, “Well, I’m not surprised that happened.” I am not glad it did as I had a pretty nice letter going. Now I’ve lost all that and need to start over. And I haven’t even started dinner yet. Sigh.

Today I did errands. And then I worked. It has been a bit rough as I hurt my knee last Friday and it still is bothering me today. I have been wearing a brace on it, but there comes a point when it is so tight that I cannot bear to have it cutting off the circulation in my lower leg anymore. Well, that might be partially exaggerated, but I think you can see what I am saying.

Because my knee is bothering me, I am not able to walk Elsa the dog as far as usual. This morning I was only able to walk her about 4 blocks in total. We stopped and chatted with a couple of neighbors along the way, so she wasn’t able to keep a steady pace. I could tell she really wanted to walk over to Pier Park and run, but there was no way I was going to be able to do that. I considered driving her over there, but we gave her a bath yesterday and the first thing she would do at the park would be to find the dustiest spot and roll around and get all sappy and dirty again. Not today. I’d like her clean at least for a full 24 hours, if possible. I wish she spoke human or I spoke dog. That way I could tell her I’m not quite up to a full walk and she could sympathize. Maybe she would say to me, “That’s ok, Mom. Why don’t you take a couple days off and rest your knee and I will just run around the yard and chase squirrels.” I’m still waiting for that miracle to happen, but I’m 110% it will not.

As I’ve been sitting here typing looking out the window, our little brown, cotton tail bunny was looking back at me from the side yard. Holly got up and filled up a water bowl and I took a minute to take it out so it would have some fresh water. Our bird bath, which now sits on the ground, had a bunch of leaves in it, so I gave that a good rinse, too. Now the bunny has two clean water sources. It sure is nice to see it out in the yard. I hope it stays safe through the winter. I still need to put a little crate out there for it. I’ll see if I can grab a handful of straw from the local feed store to put in it. I just don’t want the stupid rodents to take it over, which I’m afraid they may. I may have to give this a good think before perusing it.

On my walk with Elsa the dog this morning, I did get you some pictures of the disappearing flowers. I keep thinking they are mostly all gone then see some that are still vibrant and picture worthy.
Garden Cosmos. It comes in so many different colors.
Sulfur Cosmos. Pretty orange.
Gorgeous Rose.
Oppositeleaf Spotflower. That’s a mouthful, eh?

I was able to get some appointments made today for clients and for myself. Lucky me, I get to get all the tests done that a 50 yr old gal gets to get down. Hooray. I might as well finish out the year with yucky procedures and have it done with. I’m not worried, just want it all over so I won’t have to do it again for a few more years.

I’m off to cook some dinner now. I am so sorry I wasn’t able to connect with you today and have a chat. Joy and I have arranged to do it tomorrow instead. I will make sure I am home by 3 pm. Until then, have an amazing day with your friends and I will tell you how much I love and miss you in a bit.
