19 April, 2020 - Procrastination and Getting Stuff Done
Dear, Mom-
Today was a busy day. I didn't get done what I had thought I was going to, but instead, started something else that will have to be finished later. The story of my life.
The wooden platform in front of my art studio is so rotten that I almost put my foot through it. Today, I took it apart and started thinking of other ways to rebuild it (just temporarily, though). The frame for it is still good, so I will add some pallet wood to it.
I have had three, small pine pallets I have been saving to use the wood for something, and it just so happens it should work really well. I also have the materials to make my deck around the art studio, I just need to build the skeleton underneath to set it on. In order to get that project going, I need to rototill up the soil, make sure it is even, or level, all around, get some deck blocks and 2"x 6" weather treated wood to form the frame, then get it knocked out in a day. I can't wait to show it to you. I really want to get the back yard useable and looking nice for the summer. Heck, since I can't go camping, I wouldn't mind making the back yard into a campsite complete with a tent and fire pit. I just need a water feature! Maybe a small waterfall fountain? I think if I did that, the raccoons would quickly take over and kick me out of my own back yard. Oh, wait. They already have!
Holly has been busy rearranging her music studio. She has been sorting lots of musical equipment, cords, and miscellaneous gadgets. She has started to use a new kind of computer program to create music with and is very excited about it. Even though we are both musicians, programming electronic music like she does is not something I understand. She is very talented and very good at it. I will stick to playing live instruments for now, although I like the idea of learning how to do it electronically, too.
I went over to check on my neighbor Birgit today. She is the Swedish lady I work with next door. I noticed her curtains weren't yet drawn at 11:00 am. That is my clue that she is up when they are open. I was concerned due to the hour, so I went in (I have a key to let myself in). She was sitting next to the bathroom entrance on a chair in the kitchen. She has a very bad stomach and had been up most of the night feeling sick. This is not something new. It is a side effect of her arthritis medication and has gone on for a couple of years. Anyway, she wasn't feeling very well, so I decided to stay and tidy the house for her and distract her from feeling sad. It worked and by the time I left she was sitting in the sun reading her Sunday New York Times.
Other than those things, I walked the dog and talked to a work friend on my iPad for almost an hour and forty-five minutes. We are great friends from the cinema I worked at on the weekends. It's nice to be able to talk to people over the computer. I miss my friends a lot, but Kim is the one that I have the hardest time not seeing in person. We talk on the phone quite a bit and text, but its not the same as seeing her in person.
Just like I cannot see you in person right now, either. It really makes me sad and hurts my heart. We have to stay hopeful and know that we will be allowed to soon. Fingers crossed, Mom. I know it won't be soon enough, but I know that you are very safe and well cared for. Those girls that look after you are all very sweet. I miss them, too.
Well, I better get to bed. I have to go to the chiropractor tomorrow morning for my neck and back. I am glad he is still open. his office environment is very, very clean and sterile. I trust his judgement about keeping his clients safe. If it weren't for his adjustments to my neck and back, I doubt I would be able to work right now. I'm very crunchy and stiff.
All my love to you, Mom. Let's meet in our dreams again tonight, okay?
I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!
Good night,
Sal
