21 April, 2020 - Walking Under Clouds & Sunshine Burns
Dear, Mom -
Today it was cloudy and I woke up a bit glum. I felt like calling Philippe (Bob's son) to ask if I could take the day off. I took a shower and reconsidered. I cannot just call in for a sick day right now. I have to power through the day and my low emotions. Once I was up and about and focused on the tasks at hand, it all came together nicely and went well. Bob was delighted to see me and it made it all worth going to see him.
Bob and I walked for a long time. We walked from his house to the park. We walked from the park to the baseball field. We walked from the baseball field to Willamette Blvd and then walked home. One of the things I noticed; the world looks different when you aren't rushed. I have driven down that street many times a week and never noticed details about the houses we walked past. The landscape, the arch of the roof, the office with big windows in someone's basement, the brickwork with hidden windows. Life is richer when we slow down.
This morning when I walked Elsa, she was introduced to a squirrel who was sitting on the sidewalk. There was a big, black cat to the squirrel's back and Elsa to the front:
The squirrel kept letting Elsa get closer and closer, which Elsa was delighted by. The squirrel would stand up high on its hind legs with its little hands limp like it should have been carrying a handbag. The cat was indifferent and I think curious to see what would play out between Elsa and the squirrel. Needless to say, Elsa couldn't resist and helped the squirrel to make the choice to run up a nearby tree for a 'better view'. I tried to get a better picture, but this will help to give you and idea of the set-up.
The dog, the cat, and the squirrel all went on about there day as if they'd never met to begin with.
Elsa wanted me to share a picture with you of her with some lilacs. I know you love them and you know I'm horribly allergic to them! A picture won't make me sneeze, so here you go:

I received my wood carving tools in the mail today. I am very excited to use them. I have the wood and the carving tools, but I still need a small axe to help shape the wood before I detail it down. I think I may go to the hardware store and pick one up tomorrow so I can get started on my spoon projects.
I best get to bed, Mom. I am very tired as it took me a long time to fall asleep last night. As much as I would like to nap during the day, I just can't let myself when I know there are other things I could be doing. I guess that is something I should work on. Just letting go and getting some rest every now and then.
I love you very much. I miss you very much. I think about you throughout the day. I dream about you during my sleep. So please be comforted to know you are with me all the time.
Much Love,
Sally
