29 April, 2020 - A Helping Hand & A Good Dinner
Dear, Mom -
Hi, Mom!💖
Today was a nice day. The weather was a bit strange; clouds with sun, just sun, overcast, spitting rain, wind, cloudy...it was all over the place. My little garden starts are peeking through the soil with more force now. My gazanias and wild flowers are definitely the plants that are really taking off. My lettuce is all of the sudden coming up. I'm glad because I really want lettuce. I'm going to have to line my garden box with brambles so the slugs don't eat the leaves though. I may put a few marigolds in there, too, but I like the idea of some blackberry stalks in there. It is a trick I learned on a gardening video I watched the other day. I have to say it makes perfect sense.
Today I worked with Birgit. She was very down. She has some pretty bad pain in her wrist that her medication doesn't seem to work very well on. I tried to get her in a good mood before I came home. I worry about her. She rarely had a 'good' day due to her pain, so the least I can do is get her in good spirits before I leave. When her daughter Paula came home, Birgit must have talked to her about me sticking around longer than usual to make sure she was doing okay. Paula came out as I walked by with Elsa to tell me Birgit was feeling better. I just do what I can in the way of pep talks. Anyway, we ended up having a better day together than what it started as.
My back and neck have been pretty sore so I took it easy today after work. I will confess that I played some video games while I put the rice bag on my neck and the ice pack on my back. It may sound worse than it is. Mainly, just a soreness. I am starting my stretches at night to see if it helps to work it out.
I made a nice dinner tonight. I got out the instant pot Kim gave me for my birthday and made mustard chicken. I also boiled some potatoes and carrots and mashed them up with some sour cream, milk, and butter. I tried making some present rolls, but for some reason they wouldn't tear apart right. I ended up with some weird, puffy, oblong rolls in different sizes. They tasted fine, just kinda funny looking. We had the leftover fruit salad for dessert. I really wanted chocolate chip cookies...or cake...or hot chocolate. It looks as though I may have a chocolate problem, if such a thing exists.
And maybe problem is the wrong word.
Here is a picture of Colin, Doran, Sue, and Micah. I forgot that Doran sent it to me a few weeks ago. He was asking how you are doing and saying how much he wishes he and Sue could come for a visit. They are just staying home. Micah is living with them throughout the 'stay at home' order. It is better for him to go to the store than Sue or Doran anyway.
Anyway, the boys look so grown up...because they are. It is just crazy. Colin is still working in the film industry her in Portland. He was even still working a couple of weeks ago somehow.
Micah is selling insurance for State Farm, I believe. He lives in or around the Bend area.
Colin has a cute girlfriend that his folks seem to really like. I don't recall her name but that's her in the picture next to Colin.

When I was watering my seeds this evening, I noticed this fiddlehead fern slowly curling out. I thought it looked so neat! It's an unusual looking plant in this stage. Of course, I had to take a picture to share with you. Then I noticed that my neighbors Steph and Asher's gorgeous Rhododendren was in peak bloom. The colors are amazing up close!
Alrighty, Mom. I love you very much, but I best get to bed. It's almost 11 p.m. again. My eyes are getting weary. I will write again tomorrow. Maybe we can talk on the video chat? Big hugs and smooches! Love --- Sal
