13 May, 2020 - Out and About & A Bum Knee
I have been eating too much. I feel like this cat. Yes, I am a cutie pie, but I just can't seem to put down the sweets. I've baked more cookies in the last month then I have in my whole life. It's a good thing I walk about 3 times a day, or I probably would be as round as this kitty.
It was a run around day. I had to get up pretty early to take Birgit to the arthritis center for her infusion. Her infusion is the medicine that helps to reduce the pain and swelling in her hands, wrists, and back. They give it to her intravenous and it takes 2 1/2 hours. She only gets it once every 8 weeks, although she has been having flare-ups lately, so they are now going to do it every 6 weeks instead. Since they do not accept people coming in while she gets the procedure done, I drive all the way back home and tidy the house for her and do things that need doing. It went pretty quick and the drive there and back was fast because there really isn't enough traffic to cause delays. I like that. We have less pollution because of that, too. When we got back, I went home and had some coffee and breakfast. I took Elsa for a walk and found some more beautiful flowers that made me think of you:
I know you love Pansies. So do I!

The roses are from my most favorite rose bush in the whole neighborhood. The blend of colors is different than any variety of rose I have ever seen.
Then there are the candy stripper or variegated roses that are more of a climbing variety. I love them!
One of these days I'm going to have to take you up to the Rose Garden up in the West Hills. You've never seen so many rose varieties as they have there. Every color, size, smell. It's really lovely. We will take a nice, slow stroll through and not miss a one.
When I was doing all the work in the yard over the last week, I've managed to pull something in my knee or tendon or I don't know. I'm not a doctor. All I know is it was just a bit swollen and it feels like somebody kicked me right in the bend of it. I've been icing it and trying to prop it up when I'm not standing up doing things on it. I think I will just need to take it pretty easy over the next weekend and not do some much kneeling and bending. It's not very interesting to hear about, I'm sure, put it is one of today's talking points. (hahahahaha.)
I have been working on this picture since last year. I am supposed to finish it and give it to my neighbor Sam. To be honest, if I were to look in my sketchbook, I think I have done even more work on it. I'm pretty sure this little sailor cat has a Navy hat and more detail in the coat. I need to decide if I should finish it with colored pencils or watercolors? It is going to be a mixed media piece with some other things going on in the background. It is a piece of art that I keep on the back burner instead of finishing. I need some motivation to get it done.
I'm also needing to start and finish two, watercolored cards that are representations of Korean playing cards known as Godori, or Go-Stop in English. There was a gal I met who lives in Ontario, Oregon who was nice enough to send me a poster free of charge from the Travel Oregon series. You have some of these posters on your walls. They are beautifully illustrated. She sent me the Steens Mountains one that I really wanted. In return, I promised her a handmade craft. I found out she lived and taught in Korea with her husband, they have some good friends there, and they enjoyed the Gwangyang Maehwa Plum Flower Festival. After doing some research, I found out about the playing cards and decided to surprise her with a couple of replications on greeting cards. This way she can send one to her friend that lives in Korea still.
Well, I am about out of gas. I need to go to sleep for I work in the morning. Here is a picture of you and Dad that I've had on the fridge for ages. Dad was about a foot taller than you! Ha.
Good night from me, and a Good Day to you!
I love you with all my heart. I hope you have a chance to make some art soon, Mom.
All My Love,
Sal
