29 May, 2020 - Little Libraries & Video Chats

Dear, Mom -

I am sorry. I worked later than I thought I would today. By the time I got around to calling where you live, no one was able to contact me for a chat with you. I am sad because it has been a couple of weeks since I have been able to see you via the video program we use and things have changed a bit. I see that someone has been reading my letters to you, but I'm not sure if it is someone there or some random person online. Nobody ever leaves comments, so I'm not sure who reads this.  All I know for sure is that I am beyond patient of not being able to see you. With all the upheaval in the world right now, we need to keep doing things right and follow the sensible rules; the rules that keep you and your friends at Revere Court safe. I think that Aleynah's mother has been very wise to keep your place closed off to people other than the people who help to keep it running. If they were to open up again too soon, some people may start to get sick, and we do not want that to happen. This is why seeing you via the video chat is so important to me. I will try again tomorrow, but I am not sure anyone will be able to help on the weekend. We will keep our fingers crossed.

Pictured above are a couple examples of Little Libraries. I am going to build one out front of our house and I am trying to get ideas of how to do it. Little Libraries are inventive cabinets in neighborhoods where people can leave books they have read and take one to read. An exchange of sorts. Some people even make a shelf as a food pantry for food they have excess of and would like to share. I would like to build one that have moss and plants growing on the roof. I would also like to build one with a shelf low enough for kids to be able to reach in and pull out a book of their choice. I am going to make one that will be painted with a science fiction theme since those are Holly's and my favorite genre of book. I will include some neat 1950s graphics on the outside. I may cut them from magazines and shellac them on because I have never seen a Little Library that has been designed like that. And you know me, I like a good collage.
(The one that looks like a movie theatre is AMAZING.)

Your granddog Elsa and I were talking about you this morning. We were sending you love. Did you get it? As you can see, Elsa was concentrating very hard. Such a sweet girl. She loves her grandma.

I'm going to end with a picture of a poppy that bloomed in Paula's yard. It is one of the prettiest poppies I have ever seen. What do you think?

I am going to go to bed now, mom. You are always in my heart. I miss you, but hope to see you very soon. Your Youngest Girl, --- Sally
