24 October, 2020 -A Day Off & The Instant Pot
Dear, Mom -
Today was a very fall day. There was a chill in the air and the leaves were blowing and swirling around in the air. I cannot say that I did much this morning. I slept in until about 9:30 (a rarity for me). I had a bad headache when I woke up and realized that I must have been grinding my teeth or clenching my jaw during the night. The muscles in my jaw were sore and the headache was in the right place to be associated with that. I remember that when I lived in Eugene back in the mid-2000s, I used to wear a teeth guard due to grinding my teeth. I really don’t want to have to start doing that again, but I also do not want to grind my teeth down! If it persists throughout the rest of the weekend, I may buy one and see if it does any good. I think there is a lot more stress recently than usual since the presidential election is coming up and people are a bit on edge about how it will turn out. I cannot keep that in my mind right now. I voted the day after Holly and I received our ballots so my duty as a citizen has been fulfilled and I need to move forward until the results come about.
I didn’t not get any pictures at all today. It was cold enough this morning when I was walking Elsa that I just didn’t want to take me hands out of my pockets. Honestly, there aren’t a lot of flowers to take pictures of now either. I’ve said I will move on to colorful fall leaves, but I can start that tomorrow.
I went over to Bob’s son’s house this afternoon to help him learn how to use his Instant Pot (a type of pressure cooker). You’ve met Philippe. He is a sweetheart and I consider him to be like an older brother to me. I see him frequently due to working with his father, so we have become pretty close. He is very gracious and treats me like family. We have a similar sense of humor and it always helps when one can laugh. So, I talked to him a while back about getting a Instant Pot because they make making quick dinners so easy. While I was there, he made a soup that he said would normally take him over 4 hours to cook. It was a French recipe of his mother’s, I believe. Anyway, in an hour and a half, he had his soup! I love the Instant Pot and I owe it all to Kim. She’s the one that bought me one for my 50th birthday and taught me how to use it. Now I use it all the time to cook soups, chicken, steelhead/salmon and veggies in. It has been great for making nourishing meals with leftovers. I just need to start branching my repertoire a bit a make some new dishes with it.
I am under my covers now. I have the heating blanket on and I am wondering if I should have put covers on the faucet earlier today to avoid the cold that will hit tonight. Although, the weather predictions have been pretty off lately, so I am hoping it does not get down to 26 degrees tonight. I guess we will see. I have not been able to get downstairs to put in a new filter on the furnace, so we may just have to start it up with the old one for a week or two. It might just smell a bit dusty, but it will pass...I hope. We are having the pest control gentleman come in a couple weeks to go down there, so I may just ask him to put a new one in while he is down there.
Have a great day today and a lovely evening. I will send you love and hugs and kisses through the air and hope that you can receive them there in your room. If you feel all warm and tingly, then you know I send them for you. I miss you and love you and hope to see you very, very soon.
